Criminology faculty and doctoral student share expertise on trauma bonding at statewide parent representation conference

Joan Reid, PhD, professor in the Department of Criminology, and doctoral student Klejdis Bilali recently delivered an invited presentation at the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel, 4th District (RC4) Annual Parent Representation Conference. Their session focused on identifying and responding to trauma bonding exhibited by survivors of interpersonal violence.

This presentation marks the pair鈥檚 fifth invited talk this semester on trauma bonding among victims of crime and violence. Earlier engagements included invited presentations for the USF Center for Justice Research and Policy, the Florida State University College of Law, the Survive and Thrive Advocacy Center, and the Human Trafficking Coalition of the Palm Beaches.

Reid and Bilali鈥檚 collaborative research examines interpersonal violence, including human trafficking and family violence, with a focus on improving recognition and response strategies among professionals who serve vulnerable populations.
