KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Rachana Kamtekar
Bryce and Edith M. Bowmar Professor of Humanistic Studies and Professor of Philosophy
and Classics
Cornell University
Rachana Kamtekar has written on a range of topics in ancient Greek and Roman philosophy, focusing on ancient moral psychology and moral and political philosophy. Her monograph, "Plato鈥檚 Moral Psychology: Intellectualism, The Divided Soul, and the Desire for Good" was published by Oxford University Press in 2017, and her 2026 article, 鈥淎ristotle on Learning by Doing Voluntary Actions,鈥 is the target article in Australian Philosophical Review鈥檚 special issue on ancient ethics. Her next book will be on ancient counterparts to the contemporary determinism versus freedom debate, entitled "Cause and Human Agency from Aristotle to Alexander." Drawing on the ancients, she also contributes to debates in contemporary moral psychology, primarily on the topic of character and virtue.
