Alpha Phi Sigma

Sigma Chapter (Tampa Campus)

Mission

The mission of Alpha Phi Sigma is to promote analytical thinking, rigorous scholarship, and lifelong learning; to keep abreast of the advances in scientific research; to elevate the ethical standards of the criminal justice professions and to sustain in the public mind the benefit and necessity of education and professional training.  

Goals

The goals of Alpha Phi Sigma shall be to honor and promote academic excellence; service; leadership and unity.

Purpose

The purpose of Sigma chapter is to promote academic excellence through the recognition of scholarship, assist in the development of professional and personal leadership among students and practitioners, provide opportunities for service to the community and the profession, and encourage greater communication among member chapters and the entire criminal justice profession.

Eligibility Requirements

Students Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree

• Be enrolled at the institution represented by the chapter
• Have declared a major or minor in criminal justice or a related field* 
• Have completed at least four (4) criminal justice courses
• Have completed at least 45 credit hours
• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3
• Maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA in criminal justice coursework

* Related Fields refer to various disciplines related to the criminal justice field, such as, forensics, law, homeland security, human services, political sciences, sociology, justice studies, psychology, public administration, social sciences, government, and social work. Students in these programs must complete a minimum of four courses directly related to the criminal justice field such as juvenile delinquency, criminology, legal perspectives, abnormal behavior, service administration/management

Students Pursuing a Master’s or Doctoral degree

• Enrollment in a criminal justice graduate program
• Completion of at least 9 graduate credit hours
• A minimum GPA of 3.4
